Thers is only chinese verison wine tasting note only, sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

【19 Crimes Story & History】

The men featured on our wine labels are not those of fiction. They were flesh and blood. Criminals, artists and scholars. In history, they share a bond – receiving "punishment by transportation" for violation of one of 19 crimes and becoming the first settlers of a new nation.

Nineteen crimes turned criminals into colonists. Upon Conviction British rouges guilty of a least one of the 19 crimes were sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death. This punishment by "transportation" began in 1783 and many of the lawless died at sea. For the rough-hewn prers who made it to shore, a new world awaited.

The most commonly told story holds that the “Rum Rebellion” happened because governor William Bligh attempted to stop the illegal rum trade that was controlled by the local militia.

Rum was used as a form of currency in Australia in the early 1800’s, that’s an idea worth pursuing. While the Governor was the designated ruler of the convict colony, in reality the New South Wales Corps, the military arm, ruled the roost. As traditional money like notes and coins was in short supply, a barter system was invented which was run by the Corps. People were paid and traded in Rum. Rum was a great form of currency.

A new governor William Bligh was appointed who didn’t take to rum being used for trade. He tried to stop the use of Rum as a currency. And consequently it was overthrown by the Rum Corp on January 26th 1808 in Australia’s first and only military coup.

【Character on the label - Cornelius Dwyer Kane】

◎What Did He Say? (Talking Label Experience)
"As an Irish man, I was bound to join in a combination which was banded together for the good of Ireland not for an assassination in plunder as has falsely asserted. To the judge I said I have only one request to make, I ask you simply to pass sentence and give me nothing in a shape of advice or lecture. For I assure you it would be lost upon me."

Cornelius Dwyer Kane (aka Keane) (1839-1891) had been a law clerk and cener from Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. Transported abroad the Hougoumont he was conditially pardoned in 1871, but was forbidden from returning to Ireland, So he never reunited with his wife and children there. He did however, settle in Queensland and became a civil servant.

In making 19 Crimes “The Uprising”, Winemakers selected particular wine parcels for their spice and concentration of flavour providing the wine with great intensity and lusciousness on the palate. The vintage 2017 is Shiraz dominant lending bright raspberry fruit and plush tannin structure with Cabernet Sauvignon to provide blackberry fruits, palate weight and structure and then Grenache to provide spice and fruit sweetness on the palate. The nose has intense mocha, caramel and baking spice notes. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and mouth coating with brown sugar, blackberry jammy and chocolate notes.
