PORT & TAWNY
Port Wine is produced exclusively in the Douro Valley in the Nothern provinces of Portugal only. It can be made from black grape and white grape. There are five key styles of Port, including red, white, tawny, LBV & Vintage Port. Port & Tawny are commonly enjoyed as a dessert wine due to its sweetness and richness. "Tawny" is the name given to Australia's fortified wines because it cannot be labelled as "Port".
SHERRY
"Sherry" should only refer to the fortified wine made in Spain. It made from white grapes only. Sherries can be "Dry to Very Sweet" due to the solera system, including Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso & Pedro Ximenez (PX) styles. Wine Australia decided to change the name of sherry-inspired wines made in Australia to be labelled "Apera". Sweet sherry can be a lovely way to pair a dessert.
LIQUEUR MUSCAT
Liqueur Muscat is a fortified wine made from Muscat a Petits Rouge (Brown Muscat) in Victoria, Australia. It is dark, sweet & high alcohol content, similar to Sherry & Madeira. The top classification of Muscat in Rutherglen is labelled as "Rare Muscat".
